Terms in an indemnity for loss

When you have just had a traffic accident, you often find yourself in a technical language that you do not know and that only confuses you in a stressful situation.

We are going to indicate some of the most used and what you can find and explain a little to what they refer.

Emerging damage

These are all the expenses that the victim of the accident must assume as a consequence of having an accident. For example: medical bills, breakage or loss of personal items, transport bills for displacement.

Legal defense

In all insurance policies you will find a clause that refers to the legal defense that will allow you to hire the lawyer you want and then pass the expenses to the insurer. In each company, the amount of this defense is different. Look your insurance.

Corrector factor

This is a percentage that extends the compensation based on your annual income of the victim. If your annual income is small, you can request a higher compensation.

Loss of profits

These are the income that you, as a victim, have ceased to receive as a result of injuries or property damage suffered in the accident. If, for example, your car is essential to work, you must receive compensation for this reason.

Personal harm

This is qualified as basic, moderate, serious or very serious. These are the days that you lose as a result of the accident, what were previously called days of disability or the days you spent in the hospital.

Points for sequels

After having an accident and suffering an injury, you can still suffer symptoms because it has not healed completely, sometimes for life. In this case, the opposite insurance company has the obligation to give you compensation based on the corresponding points for the sequels. All these under the Traffic Scale. Each injury is scored and it is the expert doctor who is responsible for fixing it.

Medical expert.

Well it is the doctor who has to make a report detailing the injuries and sequels. Many companies already have medical experts to assess the opinion of these independent doctors.

Motivated offer

This is the first extrajudicial offer offered by the insurer based on the medical reports provided by the insurance company. This offer you can always negotiate. Ask us what you have to do.

We hope you never have to see yourself in an accident and the further away from these terms you are, the better. But, otherwise, and in a situation such as a traffic accident, it is always good to know your rights and the possibility of claiming just compensation .

Unsubscribe a car how to do it?

There are two options when canceling a car: we can do it temporarily or permanently .

Here we will explain what procedures you will need to perform according to which option you choose.

Cancel a car permanently

This management is very simple, because you will not have to carry out any procedure before the DGT. The only thing you have to do is get in touch with an Authorized Treatment Center (CAT) and they will take care of the disappearance of the vehicle and the removal of the car from the Vehicle Registry of the General Directorate of Traffic. This process is usually free and usually includes picking up the vehicle with a crane; something to keep in mind if at the moment you want to make the low the car no longer has insurance or ITV in force.

Once the vehicle has been recycled, the CAT will give you the Certificate of Destruction , which you will have to present to your City Council and your insurance company in order to cancel both the Tax on Mechanical Traction Vehicles (IVTM) and the insurance. In the case that you have already paid the IVTM you can request a refund of the part not enjoyed, this is not the case with the insurance, since the companies do not usually make any refund once you have paid the annual fee.

The documentation that you will need to present in the CAT is the following:

  • ID card holder, Spanish driver’s license, residence card or Passport plus Foreigners Identification Number
  • Vehicle data sheet
  • Vehicle registration certificate

Finally, it is important to know that if we do not cancel our car in the correct way and, for example, we leave it abandoned on the public highway, we expose ourselves to be sanctioned with fines ranging from 600 to 600,000 euros, depending on the environmental damage that the vehicle could cause.

Cancel a car temporarily

We usually opt for this option when we are going to spend a long time without using the vehicle (for example, for a long holiday abroad), when we have suffered a very expensive accident or breakdown and we can not face the repair, when we have suffered a theft of the car … This way we will save both the Traffic Tax and the insurance. This procedure has a cost of € 8.30, except in the case of theft.

To do this we will have to move to the Traffic Department of our province and fill in the withdrawal request form . In addition we must present the following documentation:

  • ID card holder, Spanish driver’s license, residence card or Passport plus Foreigners Identification Number
  • Vehicle registration certificate
  • ITV card
  • Report the theft of the vehicle, if applicable

Once the procedure is completed, Traffic will retain all the documentation of the vehicle and we will not be able to circulate with it until we re-register it and have all the necessary documentation in our hands.

Driving on holidays

To avoid possible accidents with our vehicle, it is essential to follow a series of recommendations before embarking on the trip.

Tips for driving on vacation

Surely many of us will take the car to drive on vacation, whether to go to the beach, the mountains or urban tourism.

Some tips for driving on vacation

  • The first thing is to check that the car is in perfect condition . The most advisable thing is to take it to our trustworthy workshop so that you can do a general review and a set-up. This will have to be done well in advance of the departure date, in case it is necessary to make some adjustment in the vehicle.
  • Make sure you bring all the necessary documentation : driving license, driving license, vehicle technical sheet, ITV card, insurance policy and proof of payment, green card (in case of traveling abroad) and a friendly part of traffic accident .
  • You should also carry with you all the necessary security elements : signaling triangles, reflective vest, spare wheel and tools to make the change.
  • Plan the route you are going to follow . Choose the best route and do not put a time limit of arrival, you will enjoy more of the trip and you will not take unnecessary risks to accelerate more than the account.
  • Avoid fatigue . Make stops to rest and hydrate, it is also convenient to make light meals that facilitate digestion.
  • Do not consume alcohol or drugs of any kind . This is still one of the main causes of accidents, in addition you are exposed to large penalties and even jail sentences.
  • Organize the boot well , distribute the load in the best possible way respecting the weight limits and never carry loose objects in the inner tray.
  • If you are traveling with children, you should know that they will have to use child restraint systems according to their age, weight and height.

And finally, the most important advice, use common sense . Respect the speed limits and traffic signals, as well as other unforeseen events: retentions, weather changes, works … Remember that many people take the car on vacation and this means that we should be especially alert on the road. Remember that the most important thing is to return.

Accident with an animal on the road

Driving through a secondary route sometimes leads to the risk of a wild animal invading the road.

Inevitably, even if you go at the right speed and your driving is correct, you are not exempt from the risk of events like this that can lead to accidents with animals, so you have to be prepared and know how to act correctly if it just happens.

Despite the danger traffic signals due to the possible presence of animals on the road, what are we going to fool ourselves into: we do not usually take them into account because of the low probability that it will happen. And especially at night, these accidents with animals are much more dangerous, because the visibility is more reduced.

The problem is not only animals, but the maneuver made to avoid them is too abrupt, which depending on the speed you take can be fatal (invade the opposite lane, end up in the gutter, etc.). If the crash is inevitable, we recommend that you follow a few steps.

What to do if you suffer an accident with an animal?

In the first place, it is necessary to take into account Law 6/2014, of April 7, which regulates the responsibility for abuses of hunting species (deer and wild boar, for example) when breaking into the road. This law considerably limits the responsibility of the Administration, to transfer it to you, as a driver, and ultimately, to the insurer.

You and your insurance will have to answer for the abuse of the animal and for any damage it may cause to other vehicles and their occupants , as well as signaling elements and protection of the road (guardrails or fences). The problem will arise if the insurance you have hired does not cover accidents with animals, something that, except in policies at all risk, is usually usual.

When the accident has taken place, we must take care of the people who have been affected and call the emergency services, as well as the Civil Guard to write the report. This will serve as proof, in the future, to sue the Administration or the responsible of the preserve. This only has responsibility if there has been hunting activity 12 hours before the accident), and the Administration will have it if there were no warning signs, there were no protective fences or barbed wire or they were broken.

The most important evidence you can gather are the testimonies of witnesses, for example the owner of the preserve, as well as the official records of the emergency services and Civil Guard. To this you can add photographs of the place of the accident and a list of damages caused, such as the invoices of the workshop, medical parts, etc.

As you can see, the most important thing is to take care of the injured, and in case only the car suffers damages, it is necessary to proceed as indicated.

Total loss of vehicle with fault

In this case your rights end up in the limit that you have signed in the insurance contract.

In this type of accident, you are the one responsible for the accident, so you would only have the right to compensation / repair of your vehicle in case you have a full risk policy, third party insurance with total loss, or in case of some policies, you would have run over a domestic animal or game fauna.

As the cause of the accident and taking a policy that covers the loss, you must submit to the particular and general conditions established in the policy. In this case your rights end up in the limit that you have signed in the insurance contract.

In spite of this, as in the case of a no-fault accident, insurers usually make an economic offer, most likely downwards and only verbally, so that the company is pushing your knowledge and your economic situation by playing with misinformation and the purchasing power of the insured / injured party to force agreements to the downside and take advantage of the loss.

This situation is the staging of the insurer in which they tell you the market value or market value of your car or motorcycle or truck and also tell you that this value is subtracted from the value of remains, which is the value that has the vehicle damaged for a scrapping.

The first deception or error is in the market value, market value or value again (as contemplated in the insurance condition) that the insurer tells you. In many cases it is not correct, because they have not included the relevant correction for mileage or have not included the extras / non-standard accessories of the vehicle that do appear on the policy, so that the offer they make is less than fair. compensation, and they are deceiving you by mistake, intention or omission.

We have a long experience in the car accident assessing effectively and in a concrete way the market value and market of each vehicle according to their specific circumstances.

Having clear the correct venal value, market value or new value of your vehicle is the first step to be able to demand and negotiate on equal terms with the insurance company.

We provide you with the correct market value or the correct market value of your vehicle and depending on the specific circumstances of your case, we will make a recommendation and suggestions of the possible actions to be taken with respect to the insurance company so that do not have to resort to the judicial claim saving costs in lawyer, solicitor, experts of parties and third parties or judicial, that in case you do not have an insurance of legal defense would be at your expense, in addition to dilate the times exponentially.

You only have to make the CONSULTATION OF YOUR CASE and in 24/48 hours we will send you to the mail that you indicate us the correct valuation of your car and our recommendations and technical suggestions.

All Around Safety, what active safety measures does Subaru provide?

To innovate is to investigate, improve and implement new measures so that your safety is the priority.

For some innovating is to make futuristic-looking cars or offer complementary functionalities, but for Subaru innovar is to provide, year after year, safer cars . Or said with a single hashtag, innovate is # AllAroundSafety .

To provide comprehensive security, in Subaru we have different areas of action. One of them is active safety , security that puts measures to prevent an accident from occurring when you are driving.

AWD AND BODY MOTOR

In the case of Subaru, there are elements of technology on which active security is built. The Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system features the exclusive Subaru Boxer engine , horizontally opposed and low center of gravity, and a symmetrically designed 4WD power train. The reason for the success of our system is that it distributes the power to the four wheels, which improves the control of the vehicle in all kinds of surfaces and weather conditions. Symmetry implies balance and balance is synonymous with security.

CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION

To complete this symmetry, suspension and chassis systems are essential. When we talk about chassis, the high rigidity structure of Subaru comes into play. All models of the Subaru range incorporate ring-shaped reinforcement frames, as well as the use of high-strength materials at strategic points to cover the roof, doors, columns and floor of the passenger cabin. Despite the strength of these materials, the main frame is still light, but it is stronger and has greater torsional rigidity. Which means that, in the event of a collision, the energy of the impact dissipates and diverts away from the occupants.

As for the suspension, just a couple of comments to consider. The front suspension of a Subaru has a longer race design that allows the vehicle to follow the contours of the road. This provides better ride stability and an outstanding steering response. For its part, the latest generation rear suspension keeps the wheels perpendicular to the road surface and absorbs shocks in a sustained manner.

STARTING ON THE SLOPE

If things get uphill, Subaru comes to the rescue. The hill start assistance system or anti-rider system helps to avoid the recoil that usually occurs when the vehicle is started from a 5% drop. With this system, the brake continues to activate a few seconds after the driver stops stepping on it and starts accelerating. The result is that the march resumes in a much smoother and safer way.

Along with all that we have already explained, Subaru vehicles include a series of functions that make taking a curve, under any weather condition and regardless of the path, is done as smoothly as possible, is what we call traceability and help to that, before an unpredictable movement of the car, the vehicle responds correctly and rotates exactly as expected and without problems. Ciao, ciao, skids.

VDC, ABS and EBD SYSTEMS

All these elements are accompanied by efficient electronic systems such as VDC and ABS – EBD , which make it easier for the driver to control the vehicle and which we now explain to you:

VDC System : The Vehicle Dynamics Control system monitors and analyzes if the vehicle is responding to the driver’s intended route through a set of sensors. In case of approaching certain stability limits, the AWD torque distribution, the engine power and the brakes of each wheel are adjusted automatically to help maintain the vehicle’s trajectory .

ABS and EBD systems: The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) provides precise control of brake block and brake pressure distribution, especially on complicated roads where the system of braking is fundamental.

ABS system : Constantly controls the movement of the wheels and reduces the braking pressure when it detects the blockage of a wheel.

EBD system : Distributes the braking power between the front and rear wheels to adapt to the conditions of the terrain.

BRAKE ASSISTANT

Finally, the emergency brake assistant completes our active safety system. In extreme situations where emergency braking is necessary, many drivers fail to apply sufficient braking pressure. The Brake Assist function helps the driver to press the brake pedal. As it does? It’s simple. The system detects the speed with which the brake pedal is pressed and the force applied to determine if its application is necessary. If so, the braking pressure increases automatically.

All these systems make up only part of all the technology and innovation that Subaru puts into each of its vehicles to protect your safety. You want to know more? Stay tuned! Soon we will analyze new areas and elements that make Subaru an equivalent to security.

Auto insurance: do not forget your tires!

When one chooses the guarantees of his auto insurance policy, he is a subject to which one does not always think: the tires. An oversight that may yet cost you.

That’s it, it’s the big day of departure on vacation! You check one last time that you have not forgotten anything and load the last luggage in the trunk of the car with, by the way, an ease worthy of the greatest Tetris players. One last quick glance back and forth! You finally put the gas, decided to take full advantage of these few days of well deserved rest.

And here is the drama. At the first corner, your right-hand tire rubs lightly against the sidewalk. You stop the car to check that everything is fine, but it is already too late: you have just died . The fault of “no luck” will you say.

This story seems unlikely to you? Think again. This kind of misfortune does not always happen to others. What we want you to understand is that a puncture does not happen and that it can hit anyone . But do not fall into the psychodrama. If the puncture does not anticipate, there are solutions to face it in the best conditions.

1. The case of an already insured vehicle

You own a vehicle and have already chosen car insurance . Whatever the level of guarantee you have taken out, your tires are not always covered by your insurer . Even all-risk formulas – supposed to give you maximum protection – do not always offer support for tires. From troubleshooting to changing wheels, the costs of a puncture have enough to leave you with a bitter taste …

To find out if your insurance company pays for punctures, first check the terms of your contract. If this is not the case, find out about the additional coverages offered by the insurer. For example, 0 km assistance can be particularly good for offloading most of the costs of troubleshooting.

Caution: Also remember to inquire about possible exclusions of guarantees. It would be a shame to subscribe to an option that does not finally cover punctures!

2. The case of a new vehicle

Are you going to buy a new car? This may be an opportunity to take stock of your current car insurance. Does it really meet your needs? Is it suitable for your new vehicle? Does it take care of punctures and other tire-related incidents?

To start afresh, the easiest way is to compare the offers of different insurers to identify the one that best suits your use (urban driving, extra-urban, etc.) and your budget . Have you found the car of your dreams at a dealer or on a specialized site like Argus ? You know what you have left to do ! Go for it!

3. The case of a tire change

You have to change the tires of your car? Some professionals may offer insurance for the tires you buy at home. As a general rule, the rates and conditions vary depending on the brand and tire brands. To give you a concrete example, at Hazel Motes, we offer the Zero Pressure guarantee to insure your tires in case of:

  • slow or fast puncture;
  • bursting of the tire casing;
  • hernias;
  • acts of vandalism.

Of course, this warranty will not replace your usual car insurance : this is an option for you to ride with peace of mind! No more no less.

You will have understood: to ensure your tires in addition to your vehicle is a reflex that we strongly advise you to adopt. In addition to avoiding unpleasant surprises in case of punctures, tire insurance does not necessarily mean excessive expenses. It is now up to you to take the plunge!

Auto insurance: do not forget your tires!

Monovolume or SUV? What to choose?

We compared the capabilities of the Skoda Kodiaq and the Seat Alhambra and their use as family vehicles.

Mini-van or SUV?

New styles of family use

The familiar use of the vehicles has changed a lot during the last years with the appearance of new styles of cars that adapt to the current family use. In this comparison, we put a traditional style monovolume and an SUV against each other, the most current trend in the automotive market. The latest model of the Seat Alhambra , a benchmark in the minivan sector, is facing the Skoda Kodiaq , one of the benchmark SUV in the medium-high segment. The two with seven seats and gasoline engine for the Kodiaq and diesel for the Martorell brand.

Seat Alhambra

Minivans and all-roads large

The Seat Alhambra is the car that has a much wider range of experience in the market, which evolves since 1996. Manufactured under the premise of ‘rebadging’, there are two identical models, which only change the brand: the Volkswagen Sharan and the Ford Galaxy. Belonging to segment D, the Alhambra continues to be one of the references in the field of large monovolumes , in which, in addition to its two brothers, shares the leading role with the Ford S-Max and Renault Space.

Skoda Kodiaq

The Skoda Kodiaq was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2016 as a production vehicle, being the first SUV in the D segment of the brand. Mounted on the MQB platform of the VAG Group – shared, among others, with the Seat Ateca, the Audi Q3 and the Volkswagen Tiguan -, the Kodiaq has filled the gap in the range of the Czech brand in the field of all-major roads . The growing demand in recent years for this type of vehicle has managed to improve and contain them -both in measures and benefits-, comparing them with the first cars in this sector.

Simplified off-road vehicles

Far from the North American fashions, driving a few decades ago of excessive Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), in the European market the appearance of these simplified SUVs has completely changed the perception of the buyer, who has left behind the sedans and minivans, changing to the comfort of a wide, high vehicle and of consumptions more contained than those of a traditional 4 × 4.

This trend has also led to the appearance of SUVs in sectors B and C, such as the Seat Arona or the BMW X3 , extended versions of the Seat Ibiza or Series 3.

Two similar models

The two brands, associated under the umbrella of the Volkswagen group, do not differ much in a matter of measure, since we are talking about two vehicles practically of the same length, with 4,706 mm the Kodiaq and 4,854 mm the Alhambra, a difference that does not influence the everyday use. In addition, the two tested vehicles come equipped with the latest trends in parking aids: 360 degree vision cameras and rear view, so that the problem of the measurement is minimized at the time of difficult maneuvers or parking.

Skoda interior

The Kodiaq is equipped with a 1.984 cc 180 hp engine, all-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission, while the Alhambra has a 1968 cc of 184 hp front-wheel drive and a six-speed DSG gearbox.

Skoda motor

With similar benefits, as is obvious, the consumption is higher in the petrol version of the Czech SUV, with an approved consumption declared in the combined cycle of 7.4 liters, while the Alhambra consumes 5.3. Under normal driving conditions, these are somewhat higher, despite the fact that diesel mechanics is still more effective in this area.

Decisive factors in the purchase

One of the main decision factors to opt for the purchase of one or the other model should be the need for internal amplitude of the two contenders.

While the Alhambra is a spacious seven-seater, it is in this facet that the Kodiaq lags behind its rival, since the SEAT allows seven real seats – in which seven adults can comfortably travel – while in the Skoda, both of the trunk are testimonial, with a space more suitable for children than for adults.

Alhambra asientos

With the same distribution 2-3-2, both vehicles comply with the requirement, but it is in the Alhambra where the seven individual seats allow the assembly of child seats more broadly. The rear seat of the SUV is narrower and leaves less space for the rest of the passengers.

With 1,904 mm, the Alhambra exceeds the Kodiaq (1,882) in width, measures that despite being minimal, how in the case of the length, they do have an impact on the inner habitability. Even the height (1,720 of the Alhambra and 1,676 of the Kodiaq) favors according to the height of driver and passengers. Even so, a driver type of 1.80 m will not have any kind of problem in either of the two vehicles.

The luggage capacity of the Alhambra is 885 liters with five seats, down to 300 with seven seats, while in the Kodiaq is 720 liters with five and 270 with seven.

It is in the fast lanes where the Alhambra is more versatile and comfortable, with an aerodynamic coefficient of only 0.29 cx, while the Kodiaq (0.34 cx) is better developed on twisty roads, narrow or with the firm in bad state.

The total traction of the Skoda makes it ideal to travel on dirt roads, since the effectiveness of the 4motion of the VAG group is indisputable.

The two vehicles come equipped with automatic gearbox Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG), one of the strengths of the two models, since the change of double clutch devised by Volkswagen – the Golf IV R32 was the first to equip it as standard – is one of the most efficient in the market. This option will make us forget about the steering wheel paddles, since the driving modes will do the rest.

The choice of one model or another will be difficult, since the price of the two cars analyzed (€ 41,910 for the Kodiaq and € 42,190 for the Alhambra) is not a determining factor either. Due to the similarity in the two car concepts, the emotional component, the design, the type of use or the current fashion will be factors that the user will have to put in the balance to decide which of the two models best suits their needs.
